Maiduguri Journal of History and Strategic Studies

University of Maiduguri

A biannual peer-reviewed academic journal dedicated to advancing historical and strategic studies scholarship in Africa and beyond.

Journal Overview

Maiduguri Journal of History and Strategic Studies (MJHSS) was established in 2003 as a peer-reviewed academic outlet by the then Department of History, University of Maiduguri, with Professor Saliba B. James as its pioneer Editor-in-Chief.

For over two decades, the journal has provided a platform for scholars to publish research on Nigerian and African history, especially the Chad Basin region. The journal gained prominence for its rigorous peer-review process and standard publications.

In 2025, following the change of nomenclature to the Department of History and Strategic Studies, the journal was renamed MJHSS and expanded its scope to include strategic studies such as security, diplomacy, and international relations.
